Dosage
The younger you are, the more important it is to protect yourself from radioactive iodine. That’s why iodine tablets need to be given in priority to children and pregnant women (to protect their unborn baby) and breastfeeding women.
Depending on your age, you must take a different dose. The leaflet gives you more information about how best to take it, and in which cases it is not recommended to take iodine.
The recommended dose should not be exceeded. You can first dissolve the iodine tablets in a small amount of water and then add to a larger drink.
In exceptional cases, iodine tablets may lead to hypersensitivity reactions such as skin redness, fluid retention, neck pain, running eyes, cold symptoms, swelling of the salivary glands and fever. The symptoms normally disappear without any treatment when the intake is stopped. If in doubt, you can consult a doctor. The small risk of hypersensitivity reactions is not an argument against taking iodine tablets.
